Everyone stands in a line or circle and as each word is said you point to the next person. 

The person you are pointing to when you say IT is out of the selection. 

Keep going until only one remains and that person is IT.

Each word point to the next person, the person you point to when you say out is out, keep going until one person is left, they are "IT".

This is how I learnt this rhyme in primary (junior) school in London in the early 70's:

"Ip dip dog shit you are not it"
"Not because you're dirty, not because you're clean"
"My mum says you're a fairy queen"

Ip dip alapadar dutch cheese santamar, santamar alapadar shan. 
Brought up in Battersea after the war we didn't use words like 'shit' did wonder if maybe the words came from North Africa.  Didnt know anything about Dutch cheese it was all a mystery. 
Has anyone else mentioned this version
